Well, I guess Nellie and Jean truly learned their lesson about (respectfully) listening to their elders.

It seems to me that the girls were very lucky to have gotten out of the woods before running into the Plat-Eye himself (tying the story to its background information), despite all the frightening sights, sounds, and stenches they were subject to. Then again, I don't know if the scary creatures they saw were actually embodiments of the Plat-Eye.

Maybe there were unfortunate souls who had stumbled into the Gongetcha Woods before the girls, and who did not have wise, knowledgeable and loving elders to equip them with pouches stuffed with sulfur and gundpowder.

This is an awesome story! Kinda weird, but still awesome. I don't think I'd dismiss is as "mumblings of silly old folks", even before I read this. But now I definately won't!

wow very interesting... I have been to different places mostly small villages with very superstitious folks and yet these types of stories never cease to fascinate me. And yes, there must be a grain of truth in them :)

This was a great story. I'm 23 and my great grandpa used to tell us a story about this creature that lived down in the holler next to his house in hazard,ky. He said no one from those parts would leave the safety of their homes after dark for anything. On a nightly basis something would run around the holler most of the night after it got dark making a sound he didn't have the words to describe. y the time he was 60 he & his family had moved to ohio but no one had ever found out what creature was responsible for the terrifying sounds coming out of the holler each night.
